Hunting Axis Deer At A Texas Hunting Ranch - Spot And Stalk Bowhunting

Hunting Axis Deer At The Lazy CK Ranch In Texas

Spot and Stalk Bowhunting | Texas Hill Country | Archery Deer Hunting

Axis deer are notoriously difficult animals to hunt. Originating from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka their primary predator has been the tiger. This type of predation requires an extreme sense of awareness and highly tuned senses to survive. Hunting from a blind is often the most recommended method that we like to utilize here at the ranch. However, when some of our hunters want to ramp it up a notch we enjoy a good old-fashioned “spot and stalk” style hunt on these axis deer.

Spot and stalk requires a multitude of conditions aligning perfectly before you can execute “the shot”. Proper wind direction and approach are a necessity to close the distance for bowhunters. It is not uncommon for an axis deer to completely duck an arrow. Even with a perfectly executed stalk, the lightning-fast compound bows are still on occasion, outmatched by the unrivaled reflexes of the Axis deer.

Our client Sam and ranch guide Chris Miller performed and executed a flawless spot and stalk on a bedded axis buck in the beautiful Texas hill country landscape at the Lazy CK Ranch. Coupled with perfect shot placement the bedded Axis buck didn't even leave his cover. If you're interested in a hunt like this, or others at our ranch check out our website for more info! We would be happy to have you!
